HolzKore™ construction
Every HolzKraft door is constructed from solid wood. You’ll never find veneers or particle board in our products. However, to ensure a strong, warp-free long-lasting door, we use a special HolzKore™ construction on all door centers. We use short blocks of wood glued together in butcher block fashion with staggered joints and opposing grain structures in adjacent rows. This is a very time-consuming method of construction. But when it’s done correctly with the proper glues, under the right temperature, pressure and humidity conditions, the result is a door that possesses amazing strength and durability.
HolzKlad™ faces
The faces of our doors are never veneer. They are made from lumber sawn to a thickness 0.125” (3.2 mm) or greater. The benefit of this is evident in the richness, depth and beauty of the grain. It also means that over the life of the door, minor nicks and scratches in the wood will be easier to repair. In fact, it's possible to refinish a HolzKlad door multiple times without losing the beauty of the wood.
HolzKlad doors also resist crack propagation and growth far better than veneers. It's more expensive to make doors this way, but the benefits will last a lifetime.
Foam expansion gaskets
The porous cellular structure of wood means that it expands and contracts with variations in temperature and humidity. To work with these natural properties of wood, we conceal foam gaskets at strategic locations inside the door. When panels expand, the foam is compressed permitting the expansion to take place without creating unnecessary wood-on-wood pressure within the structure of the door. When the wood contracts, the foam expands to fill up the space and maintain the structural integrity of the doors. The foam we use is designed to maintain it's fluid properties for generation after generation.
Solid wood edges
To prevent wear and tear on door edges, every HolzKraft door has solid wood edges surrounding all four sides of the core. This also helps to protect against warping or twisting and provides superior strength and dimensional stability. All doors are designed to accept any hardware without altering the door construction. Standard factory sizes may be edge-trimmed or end-trimmed in shop or field to suit replacement door size requirements.
